Byte Runner PCI800

I recently was given a ByteRunner? PCI-800 8-port serial card. Here is the information I have gathered for it including the pinouts I determined myself.

Drivers

I downloaded XP-3-0-2.zip from http://www.byterunner.com/windows_2000.shtml. It contained the VSCom drivers for four and eight port cards. My eight port card showed up as two devices. Each yielded four additional devices once the drivers were installed. After installed the drivers for the eight new devices everything functioned properly in Windows XP. I was able to open, read, and write to the ports just like the existing serial port on the motherboard.

Pinouts

Unfortunately the card did not come with the adapter dongle to covert from the High-density DB-62 connector to the eight DB-9 connectors. After an evening of testing I was able to determine the purpose of each pin in the connector. See the attached pinouts-final.txt for details.

Connector

I am in the process of building a replacement dongle for the card. DigiKey? has all of the parts needed. I find that soldering high-density DB connectors is awkward so I will be using the pins that crimp on to the wires. Here are the parts I need:

First read one of these about D-Subminiature connector naming conventions:

Parts:

  • 862ME-ND (180-062-173L000) - Male High-density DC-62* connector for crimp pins
  • 16269+PL - High-density pins for D-Sub connectors
  • 0134+PL - Shell for DC D-Sub connectors (DC-37 and DC-62)
  • 16251+PL - Male DE-9* connector
  • 16265+PL - Standard pins for D-Sub connectors
  • 2859+PL - Shell for DE D-Sub connectors (DE-9 and DE-15)
